What kind of animal is the alpaca?

Alpacas are domesticated camelid animals native to South America, particularly Peru, known for their gentle disposition and suitability for fiber production. They are smaller and more docile than their close relatives, llamas. Alpacas come in various colors, have long necks, slender bodies, and they are primarily raised for their luxurious fleece, which is sheared annually without harm to the animal.
In the textile industry, "alpaca" primarily refers to the hair of Peruvian alpacas.

Is baby alpaca from babies?

"Baby alpaca" is an industry term denoting the fine quality of fibers used in a garment or product and is unrelated to the animal's age. Baby alpaca fiber typically ranges from 21 to 23 microns in diameter, which is considered exceptionally fine and soft.

Why is my new alpaca blanket, yarn, sweater shedding?

Certain alpaca products rich in fibers may experience some initial shedding. A slight shedding is considered normal for new woven alpaca items, and it tends to diminish over time. For blankets, a 5-10 minute delicate dry cycle can enhance fluffiness.
